February 2020 – Fitness Presentation

February Heart Awareness Month

Here are some facts as to why the heart is worth showing love to:

  • The Heart is one of the hardest working muscles in the body.
  • On average the Heart beats 4,800 times in one hour and about 115,000 times in one day!
  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United states. High blood pressure, obesity, low physical activity and stress are some of the factors that can lead to cardiovascular disease.

Here are some ways we can helps our members’ hearts get stronger:

  • Provide a wonderful environment to get Physical Activity:
  1. Aerobic activity: 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity a week reduces coronary heart disease and risk by 30%, which lowers premature mortality risk
  2. Resistance training:  2 non-consecutive days of resistance training to major muscle groups each week reduces risk for heart attack or stroke by 40-70% (according to study by Iowa State University)
  3. TT/ Group X meet these baseline requirements for the positive effects of physical activity.

We as a fitness company can provide tons of options to members that can make an impact on heart health. Here are 3 ideas you can share or use with members that are coming into the gym and are looking for advice on where to start in the gym.

  1. Most members walk into the gym with little to no direction on how to properly put a workout routine together. This is why we have fitness professionals on staff to deliver awesome programs to the members. What a perfect opportunity to engage with guests or current members and guide them into Team Training Sessions/GroupEx/Studios classes.
  2. Team Training incorporates a HRM right into their session! If members are unsure how to workout at the proper intensity this is a great way for them to use a tool to watch their heart rate as they workout. If a member understands how to workout out at the proper intensity, they are more likely to keep a consistent exercise routine in their daily routine and have long term success. GroupEx offers low impact options such as cycle class where members can make an impact on their cardiovascular health without it being too overbearing on the joints. The  infrared studio/Chuze Spa offers an area where members can focus on mental health in a calm environment that can reduce stress and down regulate the nervous system, which is a great way to lower BP.
  3. Members love to be recognized for their consistency so show them some love and shout them out as they walk through the door everyday. Make them feel good about their lifestyle change. Thoughtful reminders go such a long way!!!  If they are more consistent in the gym the chances are they are making an impact on their overall health.

Heart health is important so share the love from your heart and guide our members to TT sessions and GroupEx classes where they can execute a workout that will make an impact on their overall health.
