November 2019 – Monthly Safety Topic


PURPOSE: All employees need to know what to do in the event of an evacuation.  Being prepared by instructing and practicing is key to keep everyone safe during an emergency.

In the event of a critical event contact immediately by phone/text in this order: General Manager, District Manager, District Maintenance Coordinator (if Facility related), Regional Director of Operations, Facility Maintenance Director.  One of these persons will outline the situation by email or text to all the above and: Human Resources, Marketing, Member Services, COO, and CAO.

DIAL 9-1-1Activate emergency response if required
ANNOUNCE EVACUATION AND ASSEMBLY AREAOver the paging system: “Attention all employees, members, and guests. The emergency evacuation procedure has been activated. Everyone is instructed to immediately exit the building by the nearest emergency exit. Your children are being assisted to the outside staging area by Chuze employees. All employees shall meet at the Staging Area located at (insert specific location)”
CHECK FACILITY/ SECURE ASSETSOnly if safe to do so:Club Management should check all rooms (locker rooms, storage areas, training rooms etc.) and note any persons who do not wish to evacuate
DURING EVACUATIONGo to the nearest exit and designated staging area (follow the lighted exit signs)Walk, do not run, calm those who appear agitated around you and assist those who are slower moving or disabledDo not return to retrieve personal articles, phones, etc.If fire or smoke is present:Stay low and crawl under the smoke to the nearest exitIf an exit door is closed, feel the surface and do not open any door that is hotNote: Club Management should ensure that individuals stay well clear of front entry to the club (for safety reasons and to enable public emergency response to gain unobstructed access to the building upon arrival)
KIDS’ CLUB SPECIFIC EVACUATIONKC Staff and Club Management is trained on Kids’ Club evacuations.Attendants should immediately check all areas and account for all childrenClub Management should delegate at least one staff member to assist in KC evacuation.Talk slowly and calmly to the children, and reassure them that everything will be okay.The KC emergency backpack and KidCheck App will assist with headcount and check-out procedures once outside the facility.Children are only released to guardians with proper authorization and/or documentation by Manager on duty.
Group X /Team TrainingDirect participants to the nearest exit. Announce that KC will unite children and parents outside at the staging area.
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONSProvided by Club Management or public emergency response teamIf not done already, Club Management should immediately exit the building once public emergency response team arrives on the scene and takes over
CONDUCT HEADCOUNTOnce everyone has evacuated the building, conduct immediate headcount of team members and childrenChildren should be accounted for using the emergency evacuation clipboardDo not leave the vicinity of external assembly area as this may disrupt the ability to conduct an accurate headcountReport any missing individuals, as well as their last known location, to Club Management and/or public emergency responseRequests for release of children from assembly area should be through Lead Babysitter on duty (to include ID verification)
ALL CLEARDo not re-enter facility until Club Management has been given the all clear by public emergency response team and/or is it clearly safe
